Current Cyber Risks

QR codes have been in use since the late 2000s and rapidly expanded in use during the Covid-19 pandemic. Since then, QR codes have been used for all sorts of purposes. For example, QR codes are effective in marketing because they can be used as a medium for linking promotions on different websites. The best part? They’re so easy to understand that even your grandma could use them!

QR codes are displayable, readable images that allow a user to extract information from a website, app or other location. QR codes can be found all over, but they’re most popular among people who are into technology. That’s because they’re so useful when it comes to providing access to data and information from various sources.

In this webinar we will discuss the different ways criminals have used QR codes to their advantage. This includes the criminal use of QR codes for advertising scams and phishing attacks, as well as for ransomware and other types of cybercrime.

The safety of QR codes is up to the discretion of the developers who create and maintain them. As with any technology, however, it’s crucial to keep your data private and secure so that you don’t fall prey to a crime that uses QR codes.

This session was originally presented during the MyKludo Virtual Investigations Conference held 6-8 December 2021.
